Goals from Matty Brown and Tom Peers gave Chester FC a fine 2-0 win at FC Halifax Town on Sunday.

Following a run of six games without a victory, the Blues bounced back to form at The Shay and were full value for the three points.

Steve Burr's side took the lead in the seventh minute when captain Brown headed a Kane Richards cross past ex-Chester keeper Matt Glennon.

Halifax, who cruised to a 3-0 win at the Swansway Chester Stadium in August, could not gain a foothold in the game with the Blues shutting them down effectively.

Glennon made a top class save to keep out a Sean McConville long range strike in the second half and Craig Hobson headed against the post from the resultant corner.

Halifax pushed hard in the closing stages with Scott McManus heading over and Jon Worsnop saving from James Bolton and Scott Boden.

With the home side committing men forward, Chester got a killer second goal with six minutes to go as Jamie Menagh whipped over an inviting cross that sub Tom Peers guided home with an exquisite diving header.

It was a reminder of what the Blues are capable of and a perfect ending to 2014 with a trip to Altrincham up next on New Year's Day.
