Dale Tonge will remain with Chester FC for at least another month while boss Steve Burr is considering further additions to his squad this month.

Tonge, who signed a short-term deal in August after spending pre-season on trial, has been included in the squad for each of the seven games so far but has made just two substitute appearances.

However, the 30-year-old has impressed Burr with his professionalism and his ability to cover several positions is welcome given the size of the squad.

Burr said the Barnsley-born defender or midfielder would be with the Blues until the end of September, when the situation will be reviewed again.

Burr said: "We've extended Dale's deal, how long we'll be able to extend it for I don't know yet but the pleasing thing is he'll be here for at least another month with us.

"I know he hasn't played a part yet and Ryan Higgins has been doing quite well - we've all being doing well because we've lost one in seven so that's been good - but like a lot of the squad you want them to be able to go in and do a job and I know that Dale will be able to do that when he's called up."

Burr made one signing before the summer transfer window closed at 6pm on Tuesday, bringing in striker Josh O'Hanlon on a month's loan from AFC Bournemouth.

Another potential loan move did not come to fruition, but the manager might revisit that when the emergency loan window on September 9 and is running the rule over an experienced free agent who is on trial too.

But with O'Hanlon on board, Luke George available again and Ross Hannah nearing a return, there's no real rush on Burr's part to add to his squad, although Craig Hobson could be sidelined until mid-September after injuring his ankle.

"There was a potential lad that we were looking to bring in but that now be when the loan window opens next week," said Burr.

"I'm happy with the boys that we've got and obviously getting Josh in. Hopefully Ross will be back, Hobby won't be out too long and Luke George should be back this week with an injured toe and again he's been very influential and he was a big miss for us on Monday."

The retention of Tonge and the loan move for O'Hanlon have been made possible thanks to the club's Crowdfunder project, which raised £25,500.

Burr was delighted with the success of the scheme and is in a good position with funds available to strengthen should he wish.

He said: "It's enabled us to prolong the availability of Dale being with us so we're pleased with that and also the fact of bringing in a striker.

"It's been well documented but we can't thank the fans enough for their efforts to get that sort of money in over such a short space of time.

"It's been brilliant and from my point of view, Jon McCarthy and all the lads want to give a big thanks to everybody no matter how small or how big they've contributed. It's been a fantastic effort, it really has."
