AFC Bournemouth striker Josh O'Hanlon had no hesitation about his loan switch to Chester FC - but revealed it came out of the blue.

The 19-year-old has moved north for an initial month but both clubs are keen on a longer term arrangement should he settle in well.

"It was Tuesday when I got a phone call to say 'pack your bags' pretty much and 'get on the next train and on your way up there' so it came at pretty short notice but I was happy with the move," explained O'Hanlon, who trained with his new team-mates for the first time on Thursday.

"I played over here when I was younger with my schoolboy team so I was aware of the club anyway but there was no hesitation because obviously I'm coming into the Conference and the club's doing well so hopefully I can come, get games and prove a poiint.

"I can't wait to get started to be fair. I was looking to get out and get a few games because at this minute I'm coming back from an injury so I'm delighted to be here."

Dublin-born O'Hanlon left his homeland in January 2014 when his record of seven goals in 22 games for Longford Town prompted Bournemouth to spent £50,000 on the teenager.

Having relocated from Ireland to the south coast, the forward doesn't think swapping Dorset for Cheshire will cause him a problem.

And he is aware of how a temporary switch to the Blues paid off for Oli McBurnie, whose performances while on loan were a factor in his move from Bradford City to Swansea City.

"I moved over from a different country to come over here so I think if it's going to benefit me then I don't mind making a move to the other end of the country," said O'Hanlon.

"This is important for my development and everywhere I go I'm obviously looking to improve so hopefully I'll have the same success as Oli. I think every league is tough and it won't be easy but hopefully I'll be able to do well.

"I'm a hardworking player and I'll give everything for the team, and hopefully with hard work comes goals. The manager at Bournemouth has told me to come and do well, have no fear and just be confident and do what I can do and the rest will take care of itself."

Since moving to Dean Court, O'Hanlon has been loaned to Oxford City, Poole Town and York City. His 12-game stint with Poole produced seven goals but he found his spell at York frustrating, making just three appearances.

O'Hanlon feels confident he can make an impression in his time with Chester, starting with Saturday's home game against Vanarama National League leaders Forest Green Rovers (3pm).

He said: "It was good at Poole, it was good to get out and score goals, and it was local as well so I was still training at Bournemouth and playing games and scoring. I did what I needed to do there and then wanted to to higher.

"I didn't really play as much as I wanted to at York and it was coming to the end of the season as well so I'll be looking to get as many games as possible here and do well.

"I've obviously looked at the league table and seen that Forest Green are top so I can't wait to get started and have a good go at them."
