A Cheshire man is understood to have been killed in a hit and run in Miami Beach.

Andrew Hamilton, from the Chester area , died after being struck in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The 27 year-old tourist, who was a former pupil at St Davids High School, in Saltney, was visiting from the UK when he was hit by a BMW at high speed at about 2.30am.

Miami Beach Police have launched an investigation, with reports saying they are hunting a man who fled the scene after. Three women have also been detained for questioning.

Mr Hamilton, who has family in Blacon , was crossing Collins Avenue at 11th Street when he was killed.

Tributes have already started to pour in for Mr Hamilton , who had worked as a cabin crew for easyJet.

His cousin Jade Kilgallon wrote on Facebook: “R.I.P to my cousin Andrew Hamilton who sadly passed away in a hit and run while on holiday in Miami yesterday.

“Words can’t describe how much shock has hit us all but he will never be forgotten, shine bright with the rest of the Angels, love you so much.”

A Foreign office spokeswoman said: “We can confirm the death of a British national in Miami Beach, Florida, on 13 October.

“We are providing consular assistance to family and friends at this difficult time.”

Zowie Jones, 41, from Blacon said: "RIP Andrew I never met you but I worked with your gorgeous mother for a long time such a heartbreaking time all my love sent to all of the family my heart breaks for you shine bright with the Stars lovely boy."

A Justgiving page has been set up by Mr Hamilton's friends to raise money for his family. It has raised £3,598 in a number of hours towards a target of £5,000
