Tributes have been flooding in for a Chester man who was killed in a hit and run in Miami Beach .

Andrew Hamilton died at the scene after being struck by convertible BMW in Florida in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Devastated family and friends have being paying tribute to the popular 27 year-old, a former pupil of St David’s High School, Saltney, as a “beautiful man” and a “gorgeous boy”.

His family have now released a tribute to their son.

The driver of the speeding car - which was said to have been travelling at around 100mph - got out of the car and ran from the scene.

He is being hunted by police.

Andrew was on holiday with friends when the tragedy happened.

His cousin Jade Kilgallon wrote on Facebook: “R.I.P to my cousin Andrew Hamilton who sadly passed away in a hit and run while on holiday in Miami yesterday.

“Words can’t describe how much shock has hit us all but he will never be forgotten, shine bright with the rest of the Angels, love you so much.”

A JustGiving webpage has also been set up to support the family.

On the page, Mr Hamilton’s friend Kelly Tyrer said: “Less than 24 hours after setting up this page we have raised £3500. This shows how highly thought of, respected and loved our beautiful Andrew was. Jackie and his sisters are very grateful for all of this support and your words are a comfort. Love and miss you forever, my world, heartbroken x.”

Sue Huyton said: “Beautiful Andrew , gone to soon RIP.”

Sam Reddy added: “Thoughts and prayers with all his family and friends at this sad time heaven gained another angel too soon x x x.”

Eloise Calvert said: “He was such a well-loved beautiful man.”

And Faye Green added: “Rest in peace gorgeous boy. Thank you for the good times, I’ll treasure them. Love you.”

Miami Beach Police said Andrew, who had worked as cabin crew for easyJet, had been hit by a silver BMW at around 2.30am local time on Tuesday, while crossing Collins Avenue in the North Beach area.

The driver of the car got out and ran away, leaving three women behind in the car, according to local media reports.

Police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez added: “Initially (the suspect) was wearing all black. He is a black male with short cropped hair and a witness observed him removing that black shirt to wipe blood from his face and that shirt was left somewhere.

“At this time our investigators are actively processing all the evidence and pursuing all leads.”

Eye-witness Samuel Simpson said: “I saw a car speeding real fast, going at least 100 miles per hour and I heard a loud boom.”

A UK Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “We can confirm the death of a British national in Miami Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, October 13.

“We are providing consular assistance to the family at this time.”
