Concerns for the safety of a man led to the closure of the A483 for almost two hours today (Wednesday, April 6).

The man had been seen standing on a bridge at Junction 6 near Gresford which prompted North Wales Police to shut the carriageway in both directions.

It was closed between Junctions 5 and 7 causing chaos, with traffic at a standstill for many miles.

Other roads around the A483 became jammed including the old B5445 Chester Road through Gresford and the A541 Mold Road southbound at Gwersyllt, as motorists tried to find alternative routes.

According to North Wales Police, the man was eventually taken away to safety at 12.40pm with the bypass fully re-opening a short time later.

Later North Wales Police tweeted: “#A483 #Gresford Incident over. Please allow time as traffic starts to move again. Thanks for patience and cooperation.”
