Motorists travelling on the A483 between Chester and Wrexham have been complaining about rush hour roadwork snarl-ups on the A483.

Lane closures have been in place north and southbound, at the Wrexham turn off, for drainage works which started on Monday (March 14).

But long delays of about half an hour or more and tailbacks have left drivers frustrated, despite warnings from the Welsh Government’s Traffic Wales, which advised of 'local congestion'.

The works are set to last until Friday, March 18.

Motorists have taken to social media website Twitter to make their views known.

Ali Owen tweeted: “Queue almost as far back as Llay turn off on the A483 Southbound this morning. Northbound we had no queue till got to the cones.”

Anna Gronnow added: “Road works by beeches in Gresford to go with the misery of the A483. Great timing. Wouldn’t use it as alternative to the by pass.”

On Monday work has been carried out between junctions 1 and 2 northbound, near Ruabon and junctions 2 and 3 southbound at Pentrebychan and junctions 5 and 6, both ways.

Traffic Wales website said: “Congestion is expected particularly at morning and evening peak periods”

The Welsh Government’s Traffic Wales website said: “The scheme involves the replacement of drainage filter stone along the edge of the carriageway on sections between Junction 1 and Junction 6.

“To minimise the effect on the travelling public, the contractor will be working extended hours so as to complete the work as soon as possible.

“No diversions will be in place, the works will be carried out under lane closures to ensure the safety of the workforce and the travelling public.

“As is the case with lane closures some local congestion is expected particularly at morning and evening peak periods.”
