With the festive season upon us, Christmas carol services will soon be under way in the Chester area.

We’ve put together a list of services including dates, times and admission prices.

Monday, December 7 and Wednesday, December 9

Arley Hall's candlelight & carols evenings will take place on Monday, December 7 and Wednesday, December 9

Candlelight and Carols Evenings at Arley Hall, 6pm-9pm.

See floral displays in the hall lit by candlelight whilst you listen to the choir sing as you meander around each room.

The Bridgewater Choir will be singing on Monday, December 7 and the Serenade Singers who have sang at Arley at Christmas for the last 12 years will be singing on Wednesday, December 9.

Wednesday, December 9

The University of Chester Carol Service at Chester Cathedral, 7pm.

The service will be preceded by sherry and mince pies in the Small Hall on the Parkgate Road Campus. All are welcome.

Wednesday, December 16 and Thursday, December 17

Chester Music Society Choir presents Aspects of Christmas at Chester Cathedral at 7.30pm featuring stage and screen star Patricia Routledge and the Chester Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Graham Jordan Ellis. Admission £16, £8. Call 01244 500959 or visit www.chestermusicsociety.org.uk.

Saturday, December 12 and Saturday, December 19

Chester Cathedral

On Christmas Night at Chester Cathedral, 7.30-9.45pm. Chester Cathedral Choir, directed by Phillip Rushforth, will sing a selection of traditional carols for all to enjoy. There will also be seasonal readings and a chance for all to join in and sing some festive songs and carols. Ticket prices vary and can be bought via the Chester Cathedral website.

Frodsham and District Choral Society’s Christmas concert Joy To The World at 7.30pm at St Laurence’s Church. Conducted by Howard Kane and accompanied by Robert Wood. A wonderful evening to celebrate Christmas with the singing of carols from the Home Nations and from Croatia, Poland, Puerto Rica and China. Plus the Christmas choruses from Messiah, contemporary pieces by Eric Whitacre and Ola Gjeilo. Solo violinist Daniel Axworthy will also feature. The Movers ‘n’ Shakers Choir is teaming up with the Chester Bach Singers for a special Christmas concert at St Mary’s without-the-Walls Church in Handbridge at 7.30pm. Sunday, December 20

Candlelit Carol Service at Hamilton Street Methodist Church in Hoole at 4pm. All are welcome for a traditional celebration with carols, readings and music by the choir.
