ATHLETICS: TWO West Cheshire AC youngsters have been showing their class at national events.
Michael Lyness produced a gold-medal performance in the standing triple jump competition at the National Sportshall Championship Final at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena.
The talented Under 13 member represented Cheshire and achieved an impressive 7.50m jump to clinch success.
Michael, who lives in Little Sutton, helped push West Cheshire AC's U13 boys to the North West League Finals and was Cheshire's only winner.
Carl Van Schie scored a new personal best points total of 2,697 to finish seventh in the AAA Indoor Combined Events Pentathlon Championships in Cardiff.
He attained new best performances in the 60m hurdles (9.24 seconds), long jump (5.87m), and 800m (two minutes 16.72 seconds).
He also added 520 points for a put of 10.57m in the shot and 426 points for a clearance of 1.55m in the high jump. nWest Cheshire AC members are reminded that there will be no training sessions on Wednesday nights at Stanney, Ellesmere Port, in future.
Club members train at Bishops High, Chester, on Mondays (6.30-8pm) and at Stanney, Ellesmere Port, on Tuesdays (6.30-8pm), Thursdays (6.30-8pm) and Saturdays (10am-noon).
A list of training sessions at Stanney's track and field arena throughout the week reads:
Tuesday - sprints, middle and long-distance running, pole vault, discus and shot.
Thursday - sprints, hurdles, long and triple jump, middle and long-distance running, javelin and hammer.
Saturday - sprints, hurdles, middle and long-distance and throws.

West Cheshire AC will be aiming to field a strong squad of runners as the club currently leads the Men's Division One, Ladies Division Two and Veterans League tables. nWest Cheshire AC will be hosting the Chester Spring Five-Miles Road Race on Tuesday, April 5 at Cheshire County Sports Club, Upton (7pm start).
Entries are being accepted on the night of the race subject to the race limit of 400 not being reached.
