RUNNING: WEST Cheshire AC youngsters produced a clean sweep of victories in the final round of the Open Junior Cross Country Race Series at Stanney.
Alex Kirk, Jessica Veevers, Joseph O'Riordan, Alice Jennings, Bradley Edwards, Abbie Noble, Michael Lyness, and Rebecca Grimes were all successful on their home turf.
Kirk secured victory in the fourth round of the U9 boys' race - his third win of the series - after beating club-mate James McMahon and third-placed Benedict Jenkins, representing Our Lady's School.
Veevers clinched the U9 girls' award, finishing ahead of Holly Tidd from Warrington AC and Ceri Sargeant from Little Sutton.
O'Riordan posted second spot in the fourth round behind Halton and Frodsham AC's Robert McGeachie, with Sam Minshall in third place.
Joseph was the overall winner, ahead of West Cheshire AC clubmates Alex Jenkins and Aaron Williams, who finished second and third respectively.
McCormick won the U11 girls' fourth-round race ahead of runner-up and West Cheshire AC clubmate Alice Jennings, with Francesca Wright in third spot.
Alice claimed the overall winner's prize, finishing ahead of Heidi Williams and Francesca Wright.
Tom Booth worked hard to finish second in the U13 boys' fourth-round race behind eventual winner Alex Smith from Warrington AC, with West Cheshire's Michael McCormick in third spot.
Booth had to settle for third behind West Cheshire clubmate Bradley Edwards who won the opening three rounds, and runner-up Alex Smith.
Abbie Noble toasted her third victory of the season in the U13s race to claim the top award ahead of Jessica Bailey from Wrexham AC and third-placed West Cheshire member Gemma Mayled.
Michael Lyness won the overall U15s prize ahead of Jack Stones and Louis Humphreys.
Rebecca Grimes won the U15 girls' overall award ahead of West Cheshire AC clubmates Laura Stott and Emily Fisher. nEllesmere Port-based shot putter Nicola Gore represented Preston at the British Universities Games and hit a season's best of 11.20m to finish ninth. nGary Roberts claimed first spot in the veteran category at the Farndon 10k Road Race.
The West Cheshire AC runner posted a time of 35 minutes 40 seconds to finish sixth overall. nThis weekend includes the Inter-Counties Cross Country Champion-ships at Woolaton Park, Nottingham, on Saturday.
West Cheshire AC's road runners will be in the Borders Road Running League third round at Forest Hills Country Club, Frodsham, on Sunday (11am start).
