BRONZE was the reward for West Cheshire AC's men in the Liverpool and District Cross Country League meeting at Clarke Gardens in Liverpool.

Dave Alexander was their highest-placed finisher, completing the three laps of the long course in eighth place with a time of 35 minutes 55 seconds.

Graham Jenkins won the over-45 veteran award after coming 28th with a time of 38:53, clear of Andrew Clague (29th in 39:02), Dave Tiernan (39:22 in 32nd ), Gary Withers (third in the over-45s and 41st overall in 39:46) and Graham Earlam (sixth in the over-45s and 47th overall in 40:27).

Andy Duffield finished 62nd in 41:57 and Alan Cooper ran 53:01 for 129th.

West Cheshire were third with 185 points behind St Helens Sutton with 101 and winners Liverpool Harriers with 28. n Bradley Edwards was joint winner of the under 13 boys section of the Manchester and District Cross Country League after finishing third at the final round at Woodbank Park, Stockport.

He finished eight seconds behind the winner in 12:28.

The league placings are calculated from the best times in four of the five rounds and Bradley, with a first place and two seconds, was awarded first position level with Callum Murray (one fifth plus three first places).

James Ellis came home in 17:49 for fourth spot in the U15 boys event and third place over-all.

In the U11 race, Alex Kirk and Robert Rogers ran neck and neck until the uphill section of the course when Alex pulled away, finishing 11th (11:41) with Rob 16th (12:39).

Tessa McCormick was eighth in the U13 girls race with a time of 10:35 and Alan Littler was ninth (23:53) in the U17 men's race.

Russell Kirk and Matt Whitfield both represented the senior and veteran men at Stockport.
