AFTER 13 years out of the sport Northwich powerlifter Pete Roberts made a title-winning return on Sunday.
The 53-year-old Arriva, Winsford, supervisor won the North West Championships at Oldham and set three new records along the way.
He said: 'A clubmate at the gym persuaded me to return to competition - and I don't think I've come down to earth yet. I've trained, but not competed in all this time and to come back like that was fantastic.'
Roberts, of Carlton Road, Northwich, won the un-equipped (without a bodysuit) category setting new records at squat of 160 kilos, deadlift 190k and overall of 445k, though he was denied a clean sweep when his 95k benchlift did not raise the mark. Roberts' performance qualifies him for the British Masters.
He was among the country's best when he quit the sport after admin blunders prevented him entering the national championships when he was 40.
