MOTORSPORT: CREWE Stock Car racers Carlos Perez and Mark Keeling notched heat wins in the Midlands in their latest outings.
Competing in World Championship qualifying rounds at Birmingham Wheels Raceway and Hednesford Hills Raceway, the Formula One duo both sampled the thrill of taking the chequered flag.
Keeling, racing for the Cooper Buckley Haulage team, earned important points with a heat victory at Birmingham, while Perez improved his national ranking to number two after finishing runner-up to former European champion Paul Harrison in his Roy Howells Commercials-powered Chevrolet.
At Hednesford, Perez started with a heat win and finished second to Gloucestershire's Neil Scriven in the Grand Final.
Perez said: 'The car was handling really well and our only problem was that we didn't have any new tyres for the main race. Our lap times slowed in the closing stages, which allowed the boys on the new rubber to close the gap. The team is very pleased with the results this weekend.'
Keeling added: 'We made a couple of alterations to the car last week, which has proved to be the right move, and we are going to undertake further track testing which we hope will lead to more podium finishes.'
