TRIATHLON: THE county will stage the largest pool-based triathlon in the North West this summer.

The annual Cheshire Triathlon is once again in Nantwich.

Based at Barony Park, the triathlon attracts more than 1,000 fun and seasoned competitors from around the UK.

It is the only triathlon in this country to feature an open-air brine swimming pool.

The Cheshire Triathlon on June 4 offers a choice of three races to suit all abilities and fitness levels.

The Fun Event comprises a 200m swim at Nantwich's open-air pool, a 20k bike around flat countryside and a 2.5k run around Barony Park.

The Sprint Event features a 500m swim, 20k bike ride and 5k run.

A relay event for teams of three sees one member complete a 500m swim, another do the 20k bike ride, and the third tackle the 5k run.

Vic Bickerton, who has more than 12 years experience of organising triathlons, said: 'It's great to see not only people from all over the country take part in this race but many local people also having a go.

'When I was first involved in organising this event back in 1993 I never envisaged it would be one of the biggest in the North of England.'
