WILLASTON AC held their own in Sunday's Middlewich Spring League match on the Trent and Mersey Canal.

They finished third on the day and moved into eighth place overall.

Mike Lomax was the star of the day with a catch of six bream weighing 13-9-0. Phil Cross brought in gudgeon to weigh 5-4-4 and Gordon Griffiths finished on 1-9-15.

The team also finished in seventh in the Taskers Tackle Spring League, which kept them in seventh overall on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal at Hadsoll. Top rod was Barry Davies with 5-12-0 of roach and skimmers.

Dave Roberts was the victor in the midweek open match at Offa's Dyke fishery, taking crucians weighing 5-0-0.

Steve Openshaw won the Thursday open match at Lingmere Fishery.

With carp and chub weighing 45-2-0, he saw off Dave Randles senior with 37-12-0 and Steve Balsom with 22-14-0.

Balsom claimed the Saturday match, however, taking a mixed 41-0-0 which was too good for Openshaw with 31-4-0 and Dave Lawrence with 26-8-0.

Danny Boothroyd won Lobol AC's contest on the Priory pool with a mixed 7-9-0. Peter Cooke was next best with skimmers and roach for 4-12-0 and Ray Cossins was third with 4-6-0.
