RUNCORN Hockey Club are celebrating a second successive championship win.
The Moughland Lane club side ended the 2006-07 season as Cheshire League Division Three champions - having not lost all season.
Newly-promoted from Division Four, Runcorn completed a remarkable season with a 4-1 home victory over Macclesfield on Saturday.
This saw them finish eight points clear with a goal difference of plus-21 on nearest challengers Oxton.
Captain Lisa Janion said: 'We are all ecstatic. We know that Division Two is where we needed to be so we are playing against teams who are at our standard.
'We are looking forward to some tough games and can expect to get beaten once in a while.
'Runcorn Ladies have gone from strength to strength and are playing some really good hockey.'
The team has benefited from coaching by Beechwood-based England international Nicky O'Donnell, who began her career at Runcorn but now captains Premier side Bowdon-Hightown.
Janion added: 'I am really proud and honoured to captain this young, lively, enthusiastic and hard-working team.
'Our team spirit is very high and we are a very close team who look out for one another.'
Runcorn had swiftly made their intentions clear by winning the county's September tournament for the third successive year.
Now they are chasing another honour in a seven-a-side tournament on March 31.
