SWIMMING: WINSFORD swimmers have completed a Northern Counties double.
They won the 13 to 14-year-old boys' 4x100m medley title, a week after taking the 4x100m freestyle gold.
They will now represent the North at both events at the National Championships in Sheffield on July 30 to August 2.
At the weekend, butterfly swimmer Alex Hay joined James Cowburn (backstroke), George White (breaststroke) and Ashley Walton (free-style) to triumph against some of the region's major clubs. Their time was 4mins 31.42secs.
James also took gold in the Northern individual event, clocking 1:03.65 to win the 100m backstroke. He also won silver in the 1,500m freestyle in 17:23.80.
George White took bronze in the 100m breaststroke in 1:19.10 and Katherine Edgar finished a strong fourth in the 100m back-stroke in 1:14.13 to notch a national time and book her first-ever place at the Nationals.
Assistant head coach Carolyn Cowburn said: 'What the Relay team have done is nothing short of miraculous and a tribute to the hard work and commitment shown so far this year.
'The team spirit is fantastic and after the success of the freestyle team last week, they were determined to make it a swimming double and get both teams to Sheffield.
'Now the hard work starts as we prepare them for the finals. I am especially pleased for Katherine, who has been knocking on the door for most of the year.'
