ATHLETICS: JOHN Manning and Paul Bateson steered West Cheshire AC to promotion - and smashed three club records in the process!
The duo pointed the Chester and Ellesmere Port-based club to victory in the final round of their Northern Track and Field League Division Three West match staged at Woodbank Park, Stockport.
The success against promotion rivals and hosts Stockport cemented West Cheshire AC's place in Division Two next summer.
John Manning kick-started his day on the right note with a new club record clearance of 3.10m in the pole vault to earn second spot overall, and Russell Kirk provided superb back-up with a 2.60m clearance.
John capped his day by producing a club record-breaking long jump victory of 6.60m to complete a long jump clean-sweep from all four rounds in the league this year.
He was joined in the long jump by Paul who secured first position in the B event with a new best of 6.43m.
And Paul capped his busy schedule with a breathtaking club record clearance of 1.92m in the high jump for a well-deserved victory alongside club colleague Andrew McKay who sealed success with a 1.60m B event clearance.
Stephen Butterfield doubled up in both short sprints to clinch important victories after posting an 11.3secs 100m and a 22.8secs 200m. Dave McKay secured maximum points in the 110m hurdles to clock a winning time of 18.4secs, despite breaking a barrier in the process.
And Dave joined his brother Andrew to seal a double success story in the javelin.
Dave launched the spear to a winning mark of 56.05m, and Andrew's best effort broke the turf at 43.84m.
The other victory of the day for West Cheshire AC in the men's events was registered by
John Manning who achieved maximum B event points with a triple jump success of 11.21m. The quartet of Butterfield, Mark Hearn, Manning and Bateson combined to earn their club second spot in the 4x100m relay after posting 45.9secs.
Charlotte Roach secured an important double success story in the women's 800m and 1,500m races.
Charlotte rounded the 800m in 2:21.8, alongside an extremely busy Heather McLintock who posted 2:27.2.
And Charlotte sealed victory in the 1,500m with a time of 5:21.3, alongside Laura O'Marah who posted 6:03.8.
Lauren Hunt and Amanda Gore teamed up to secure a double success in the discus with throws of 35.05m and 23.43m respectively.
Lauren was second in the B hammer with a best throw of 20.98m.
And Amanda Scott claimed top spot in the B 100m hurdles after negotiating the barriers in a time of 18.9secs, alongside Catriona Boyd who was third A with 18.6secs having earlier fell and hurt herself in the 100m.
Boyd also finished second in the long jump with a best leap of 4.73m.
The day was rounded off with Heather McLintock (26.56m) and Trish Jackson (12.26m) polishing off West Cheshire's success story in the javelin by securing important second-placed performances.
Boyd, Scott, McLintock and Roach combined to earn the club third position with a time of 56secs in the 4x100m.
And the quartet of McLintock, Jackson, O'Marah, and Roach teamed up to provide a memorable display in the 4x400m relay which resulted in second position and a time of 4:27.1.
West Cheshire AC was also grateful to Sam Bateson, Steve Crowe, Andrew Clague, Gary Withers, David Molloy, and Richard Stocker for their support at Stockport which helped secure the club success.
