FOUR Sandbach fighters proved themselves to be up there with the best in the UK by producing stunning performances at a big event.
Danielle Baker, Ralf Goetz, Mark Hickling and Sabir Miah, members of the Matrix UTA Club, starred at the WTF Olympic Style Taekwondo Fight Day in Manchester, which attracted the country's top talent.
Danielle, 16, who is a Commonwealth silver medallist and former junior Olympic silver medallist, won her category and used the competition as a warm-up for the Dutch Open this Friday.
Ralf, a German competitor who trains at the club twice a year, was also a gold medal winner, while Mark, a new member to the club, scooped a silver.
But the performance that pleased Matrix team coach and Welsh Commonwealth team coach David Baker the most was that of 13-year-old Sabir. He was competing for the first time but that didn't stop the white belt from tasting success.
Baker said: 'We entered Sabir to get experience as it was his first competition, so I was delighted when he won the gold.
'He has natural ability and timing, and the training he has done at the club shone through.'
The Matrix UTA club is based at the Literary Institute on Hightown and it meets every Wednesday at 7pm. It does a mixture of Traditional Korean Taekwondo as well as WTF Olympic Style Sparring.
