CHESTER Triathlon Club members lined up alongside European Championship contenders at the weekend.

The Liverpool and District Cross County League fixture, which was contested over a muddy, long and testing course around Sefton Park, doubled up as a qualifier for the Euros.

Chester Tri’s women fielded a very strong team, with Lisa Grantham the fastest lady in the long race (42:36) and Kirsty Seddon second (43:20), with Sam Moss finishing seventh in 57:15.

The club’s first three runners were very close too, with Tom Eagle completing the 10km route in 40:06, just pipping Andy Howarth to the post (40:22) with Kevin Dandy (40:40) next.

They were followed by Chester Tri club-mates David Tait (42:03), Mike Waring (42:36), Paul Seatle (43:25), Ryan Willis (44:06), Neil Jenkins (49:26) and Ray Tran (50:10).
