UP-AND-COMING rower Annabel Rogers has been given a cash boost as she continues her bid to make it to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The 17-year-old, of Frodsham, received a £500 donation from Asda in Runcorn after she was handpicked for the Asda Athletes scheme for elite young sportsmen and women.

Annabel’s selection is in recognition of her outstanding performances since joining Runcorn Rowing Club five years ago.

She said: “The money which Asda provides really helps with the cost of training camps, which I have attended throughout Europe this year.

“The additional support that the Asda Athletes scheme offers young athletes like myself, such as social media training, is invaluable.”

Annabel was in action for Great Britain at the World Junior Championships in Bulgaria at the weekend.

She joined Emily Ford in the women’s double scull boat which finished third in the B final and ninth overall in a five-second personal best time.
