WEAVER Valley riders Mike Harrison (Sigma Sport) and Dave Astles (Bike Line) excelled as the Balearic isle of Majorca played host to the ninth International Masters, with racers from more than 20 nations taking part.
Harrison put in a stunning performance to record a best finish of second in the final stage on the toughest day's racing, climbing the Soller pass twice over some 90kms. He took sixth from more than 100 starters on the first race, around the streets of El-Arenal, though Astles failed to finish.
Race two saw the tough climbs up to Calvia. Astles found his legs to finish up in the main bunch, four minutes down, while Harrison came 13th.
The entire GB squad was in this bunch, which gave them a second place in final general classification.
The next stage, a hilltop finish to the Puig-de-sta-Magdelana, suited Harris-on's light build and after 102kms he took 18th place. Astles did not start due to a heavy storm.
Astles was also unable to finish at Soller due to a time limit.
