FISHING: THE Willaston Red team made a clean sweep in Sunday's final Wirral Winter League match on the Leeds and Liverpool canal at Maghull.
Victory ensured they won all six rounds while individual winner on the day was Ricki Garcia for Ted Carter's team, ending with roach and perch for 5-1-2.
Paul Charnock of Dockers Black was runner-up with a tench-based 4-12-8 while Phil Cross of Willaston Red with 3-0-4 of roach and perch.
Willaston Red clocked up 37 points on the day ahead of Dockers Red on 32 and Willaston Black on 30.
This gave them 238 overall, clearing Ray's Tackle on 187, Dockers Black (173) and Willaston Black (168).
Willaston Red's James Hughes was also individual champion of the series.
Matchmen from the area were up front in last week's open matches on the Lingmere Fishery with Dave Randles Snr on top on Thursday with a 33-2-0 mixed bag to finish ahead of Steve Balsom with 26-0-0 and Stan Foster on 18-10-0.
Stan then took first place in Saturday's match with a carp-based 35-4-0 to edge out Sid Robinson with a mixed 24-6-0 and John Armour with 18-9-0.
Ellesmere Port's Peter Woodward made a worthwhile trip to the Meadow Fishery at Mickle Trafford as he took a 6-10-0 rainbow to a bunny leech.
Bob Edwards took the honours in Sunday's Peg 1 AC match on Pool Four at the Cheshire Fishery with small carp for 16-2-0.
Runner-up was Stewart Duncan with carp and bream for 8-10-0 while Phil Loyden was third with 5-14-0 of roach.
Rod N'Reel had to settle for second spot in the North Wales Winter League after Sunday's final match on the Shropshire Union canal at Waverton where they came third.
Their top rod was Lee Saville who was fourth with a roach-based 2-4-6 while Bernie Leatherbarrow and Geoff Grantham won their sections with 1-0-0 and 1-2-6 respectively.
Ellesmere Port's Steve Jackson netted runners-up spot in Saturday's open match on the Hampton Springs Fishery with carp for 50-12-0.
The Wirral Borough Council team stayed put in Sunday's final match of the Winsford Winter League on the River Weaver.
On the day they came eighth which meant they came eighth overall and their top points earners were Andy Walsh with 16 having taken 1-8-0 of roach, Rick Keeley (13) with 4-12-0 and Ken Stewart (13) with 3-8-0.
