DEESIDE Ramblers stayed firmly at the top of the North League Division One table as they beat a young Doncaster side 3-2.

A penalty corner enabled Geoff Price to open the scoring before Doncaster equalised. The tireless Hedley Pollard added the second, but Doncaster levelled again before Dell Willard Smith scored the winner after covering 50 metres to get the finishing touch.

Deeside seconds fared worse and were grateful for the endeavour and resilience of Andy Kirk in defence as league leaders Preston cut loose with a 5-0 win.

The thirds played Carlisle and fired five past them in a 5-2 win. Phil Brown scored three and Adrian Tickridge-Day got a pair in a very hard game that could easily have produced a draw.

In a double-header, Deeside fifths scraped past Alderley Edge 3-2 before putting 15 past City of Manchester without reply. Arthur Fernall was on target with three on Saturday but it was a matter of sharing hat-tricks on Sunday as Peter Cope, Mike Cooper and Richard Jones all claimed triples.
