MOTORSPORT: A NANTWICH motorsport fanatic is hoping to fly the family flag across race circuits for a third generation.
Mike Graham, 29, has grown up with the thrills and spills of life in the fast lane.
His grandfather, Les Graham, was a 500cc world motorcycle champion and Isle of Man TT legend and uncle Stuart was a Honda team racer.
'You could say it's in the blood and I've always had a burning desire to compete. I've raced in karting events before but it is only now I've had the finances to commit to a full series,' he explained.
Mike is now hoping to make his mark in the Fiesta XR Challenge and the early signs are encour-aging.
He finished seventh in his debut race at Snetterton and followed that up with an 11th place in the second round at Oulton Park at the end of last month.
'I picked up a nice bonus at Oulton Park when I was awarded a trophy as the driver of the day. It's all a learning curve for me but it's really exciting.
'I've found that once you get used to the car, the racing is similar to karting in that there is a similar grip and the adrenaline rush is brilliant.'
Mike, who works as a sales manager at the Stuart Graham Honda dealership established by his uncle more than 20 years ago, hopes to become more competitive as the season goes on.
'If I can get third in the championship and hopefully get a few race wins towards the end of the season, that would be ideal. My ultimate aim is to compete in the British Touring Cars series.'
To help achieve that goal, Mike is hoping to attract sponsors.
'It is an expensive sport and sponsors are important. I have plenty of space available on the car if anybody is interested.'
Potential backers can contact Mike on 07967 091207.
He returns to action at Oulton Park on May 15 before embarking on back-to-back rounds at Silver-stone over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
