YOUNG athletes are under starter's orders to decide who will represent the borough at two prestigious sporting contests.
Ellesmere Port and Neston's top junior sports aces will be competing at the Sportshall Athletics final next week for the chance to wear the borough's strip at county level in March.
The youngsters qualified after 300 primary school pupils were invited to heats at the borough's five high schools.
Five schools will now go through to the final at Cheshire Oaks High School on Wednesday (February 21), with the winner going on to represent the borough at the county final on March 26 at Vale Royal.
Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council, West Cheshire AC, Cheshire Oaks Sporting Links Partnership and Shell UK have helped organise and fund the event.
Council youth sport development officer Michelle Aspden said: 'The final will celebrate the achievements of both the competitors and also the volunteers who work so hard to provide quality athletics opportunities for young people in the borough.'
The council is also inviting youngsters with the highest individual scores in the heats to be on the borough team for the 2007 Cheshire and Warrington Partnership Youth Games on June 23 at Stanney Oaks Leisure Centre in Ellesmere Port.
