GYMNASTICS: TALENTED members of Crewe and Nantwich Gymnastic Club have vaulted, somersaulted and tumbled their way to success.
Four girls showed they are well on the way to following in the footsteps of Beth Tweddle, the Olympic gymnast who started her career with the club, when they came in the top six at a grading competition in Liverpool.
Alice Mountford, Ellie Lakin, Jessica Mullen and Jessica Birtles then went on to represent the Cheshire and Merseyside squad which came third in the regional final at Warrington.
Meanwhile, a further 30 gymnasts from the club were among 662 from across the North West at a two-piece floor and vault competition at Stalybridge.
While all acquitted themselves well, Addica Middlehurst excelled in gaining a gold medal on the vault, and Milo Kenny got silver for his floor exercise.
Aaron Blackshaw also notched a silver on the vault, while Nathaniel Brett and Ben Talbot got bronze for their vaulting and floor exercise respectively.
Meanwhile, Samantha McGowan will compete at the regional tumbling championships at Fenton Manor later this month. All train at the Camm Street Gym in Crewe.
Spokesperson Jane Kelsall said that the recent results demonstrate how the club is progressing under the expert coaching of Fergus Beedham.
She said: 'We have good reason to celebrate after the recent resounding successes. At the grade competitions, all members passed with flying colours and the vault and floor competition was of a very high standard.
'The club has an outstanding reputation, having been nationally recognised by the British Gymnastics Board. It has been awarded the Gymmark accreditation for the outstanding commitment shown by coaches and gymnasts alike.
'The British Gymnastics Board has also commended the club for specific areas that showed good practice above and beyond the minimum requirement areas.'
Crewe and Nantwich Gymnastics Club holds sessions for gymnasts aged four and above every day. For information, contact Jane Kelsall on 01270 214324.
