KARTING ace John Pike will add a county title to his trophy haul as long as he completes Sunday’s race at Hooton Park.
The rising star of karting took up the sport only two and a half years ago, but already he has become Welsh champion and secured plenty of silverware.
The 14-year-old’s lead in the Cheshire Kart Racing Club Junior Rotax class title standings is such that as long as he finishes, he should be assured the title.
It wouldn’t be the first prize of the season for John, who is sponsored by Forward Building Supplies in Ellesmere Port. His kart bears the letter C rather than a number after he won the plate – one of only four lettered plates up for grabs each season across Britain – for winning the Welsh National in Cardiff.
He has also won the Grosvenor Cup at Hooton, and is bidding to complete the rare feat of winning two club championships in one season. As well as being top of the Cheshire standings, he leads the Dragon Kart Racing Club series at Glan-Y-Gors in North Wales and has built up such a lead he expects to win that too.
