SAILING: THE Frostbite Series at Gresford Flash is continuing to be well supported in spite of the deteriorating weather, but this is only to be expected at this time of year.
The morning was very cold on Sunday and, coupled with virtually no wind, conditions were far from ideal for sailing.
Race number one saw Nigel Bloor (Solo) the last person to arrive at the club. But by the time the boats reached the first mark of the course, he was the leading boat, a position he maintained all through the race to take top honours.
Nick Blore and Harry Bainbridge, both sailing Enterprise-class boats, had a good battle for second place with positions changing all the time. At the finish, Bainbridge was second and Nick Bloor third. Andrew and Emma Bell, sailing a Miracle-class boat, came a respectable third.
The second race again saw very little wind, but somehow the boats managed to keep moving. Nick Blore, with visiting crew Jim Glover, was first on the water from the start to the finish line, but the Solos seemed to have a handicap advantage on Gresford's inland lake. And with Nigel Blore not very far behind, the final results were reversed when the handicap was applied.
Nigel Blore was placed first, Nick Blore was second and Bainbridge was a close third. Andrew and Emma Bell were again placed in fourth spot.
