BOXING: VAUXHALL Motors ABC's Martin Jones, 15, fought his way to a top North West title on Saturday.
Martin, competing in the schoolboy golden belt division of the National Association of Clubs for Young People Championships, defeated Ardwick's Mark Banks at Everton Park, Liverpool.
Coach Lee Holmes said: 'Martin's opponent was small but strong and got in close and made it scrappy early on. But in the last round, Martin stepped up and came through, showing some good footwork.' Martin will now take part in the national quarter-finals at Bolton on Saturday alongside team-mate Matty Fagan, 16, who received a walkover to this stage after his last scheduled opponent was deemed too experienced and withdrawn.
Vauxhall Motors ABC are hosting a couple of events across the water in Liverpool this month and next.
On Wednesday, November 17, they are holding a dinner show at the Devonshire House Hotel while on Friday, December 10, they are hosting the NACYP Champion-ship finals at the Adelphi Hotel.
