WINNINGTON'S hopes of a good season soared as they thrashed a team that beat them twice last term, at Sir John Deane's College on Saturday.
They set the pace from the start and scored within three minutes.
From the first penalty corner of the game, Mark Leigh switched the ball right to Danny Moores. Paul Stackhouse then made no mistake as he received Moores' pinpoint cross at the far post.
From then on, City of Manchester struggled, as Park dominated the game, playing incisive hockey from back to front.
Peter Evans looked particularly threatening early on, breezing past defenders and creating chances for his team mates, but his involvement ended with a scything tackle.
Park continued to press with Dave Leech, making his return to the Park fold, capping an impressive display in midfield with two goals before half time.
Mark Whalley and Dennis Topping held firm and created the platform for Park to move forward, with Leech completing the scoring.
Andrew Jackson netted late on, but his effort was disallowed for being struck from outside the circle while Park 2nds went down 2-0 against Wrexham 2nds.
Park 3rds crashed 5-1 at Lymm 1sts, their goal coming from Will Eggleston after swift passing from Sam Cloake and Nick Ellaby.
After an absence of four years, Winnington relaunch their 4th team on Saturday when they host Deeside Ramblers (3.30pm). The 1st XI are at Bolton, 2nds travel to Colwyn Bay and 3rds are at home to Trifton (2pm).
