HOCKEY: CHESTER Ladies suffered a mixed weekend as they claimed their first league point of the season before crashing to a heavy loss in the Cheshire Cup final.
They were beaten 4-0 in the Cheshire Cup by Poynton on Sunday.
Poynton took full advantage of their opponents' failure to finish their great attacking plays and punished the Chester defence.
In their first league game of 2006 on Saturday, Chester drew 2-2 with Nottingham Highfields.
A nasty tackle and a clearance off the line by a foot enabled Chester's Laura Millar to put away a perfectly-taken penalty stroke making it 1-0.
Donna Jones made it 2-0 but Chester were undone by two late goals, the first coming with 10 minutes left and the second with just 20 seconds remaining.
There was more late heartbreak for Chester's second team.
They went down 2-1 to Sale, who netted the winner five minutes from time. Debbie Roper hit Chester's goal.
The ladies' third team lost 1-0 to Bowdon Fourths.
