ROWING: NORTHWICH sent crews to two major meets at the weekend.
Northwich sent four crews to the Schools Head of the River Race on the Thames in London with the J16s coxless quad taking the spotlight.
Victoria Lindholt, Nicola Plant, Sarah Patrick and Leanne Ratcliffe completed the course in 21.17 to take fourth place.
The men's coxless quadruple scull of Ben Jones, Pete Wood, Ronan Lomas and Scott Alder had a solid row, finishing in 19.08.
The coxed four of Kester Reid, Kristian Ormund, Matthew Jones, Stephen Lawton and cox James Morrison finished in
21.12, and the women's eight of Rachel Law, Laura Peck, Helen Bolden, Mandy Jones, Kate Agnew, Anna Ward, Laura Forrest, Depika Parek and cox Anna Palfreyman recorded 23.20.
Meanwhile, also on the Thames, the Women's Head of the River attracted hundreds of eights including the North-wich crew of Claire Briegal, Helen Ferber, Shelly Alder, Margaret Case, Laura Hind, Pru Bundy, Rachael Law, Lucy Ryder and cox Jonty Moore. The girls finished a commendable 131st in 23mins 10secs.
Three Northwich crews also contested the North of England Head race on the River Dee, in Chester.
The Senior II eight of Tom Carter, Jamie Leighton, Mike Rafferty, Matthew Jump, John Cowen, Pete Wood, Geoff Simms, Tom Green and cox James Morrison finished third in their category.
The second Senior II eight of Doug Pickup, Ben Jones, Phil Crump, Stuart Jones, Ronan Lomas, Kester Reid, Lloyd Tredall, Andy Smith and cox Karen Airey, and the Veteran D eight of Nev Hand, Steve Wignall, Mike Pilkington, Tom Kilkenny, Dave Fraser, Mike Francis, Andy Simpson, Ian Silk and cox Laura Forrest also gave good shows.
