ANGLING: ELLESMERE Port's Bob Thelwell coasted to victory in the Lingmere Fishery open match on Saturday.
He put 58lbs of carp, skimmers and barbel on the scales, well ahead of his nearest rival, Geoff Grantham, who had 44lbs with Carl Fletcher in third spot with 33lbs.
Lee Lloyd won the Saltney Social AC match at Cheshire Fishery, Tattenhall, with a 12-14-0 catch of carp, one of which broke his pole. Second place was shared by Dean Postles and Brian Williams with 8-10-0 of carp and orfe.
The Summer Cup went to Andy Jones at the end of the Mickle Trafford AC match at the Meadow Fishery. He used a cat's whisker to take three rainbows weighing 8-1-0, well ahead of Kevin Quayle's three fish for 5-6-0 and Alan Edwards's 2-9-0 fish.
Ellesmere Port British Legion AC fished their match at Milton Green and John Adamson took top spot with carp up to 7-8-0 for a total of 19-14-0. Next were Frank Green with 19-7-0 of carp and Andy Fletcher with 15-14-0 carp.
John Woodrow led the field at the end of the Upton AC match on the new pool at Cudmore Fishery with four carp weighing 36-8-0. Kevin Valentine was runner-up with 20-9-0 carp from Andy Spencer's 17-9-0.
The Phoenix SAC enjoyed three days out at Plymouth last week when Martin Evans landed a 13lbs ling using sand eel as bait.
Mal Davies had a 12lbs pollock and Keith Deal took a 7lbs bass.
Willaston AC went to the Trent and Mersey Canal at Barton where Trevor Jackson took a 5-15-0 mixture to edge clear of Tony Churchill with 5-2-4 and Ray Jackson with 4-11-5.
Mark Davies took the honours in the Man -ley AS match at Old Hall Farm lake with an 8-4-0 mixture of tench, carp and orfe. Malcolm Lightfoot was next with 5-13-0 and John Bristow and Chris Hargardon took 4-8-0.
Phil Iball won the Tarvin Sands AC match at Burton Mere Fishery with 73lbs of carp and barbel, easily beating Ellick Peters who had 34lbs of carp and skimmers, and Les Picken with 23lbs of the same.
The midweek match went to Ray Iball with 33-12-0 of carp from Shaun Sandham's 30lbs of carp with Les Picken and Mark Greasley both with 24-12-0.
A 6lbs carp helped Steven Dean win the Lobol AC midweek match at priory pool with 14-12-0, including crucians and tench. Danny Booth had a 9lbs mixture and Sid Robinson landed 8-8-0 of tench and skim-mers.
Their Sunday pairs match on the SU Canal in Ellesmere Port went to Frank Hughes and Peter Cooke with 4-10-0.
Malpas AC went to the Egerton Farm pool where Alan Jones took 11-4-0 of carp and small fish to beat Bert Roberts's 1-8-0 and Barry Jones's 1-2-0.
Jim Fryer hit top form to win the Chester Police Flyfishers contest at Dearnford Hall Fishery. The top four fish counted and his rainbows totalled 8-14-6. Peter Jones took 8-11-12 and Peter Hindle 8-8-4.
Kevin Fishwick was a clear winner of the Rake and Pikel AS match at the Border Fishery with 25-8-0 of carp from Andy Nicholson's 16lbs and Roy Cowley's 11-7-0.
The Airbus, Broughton AC match on the SU Canal at Cheswardine with 22-12-0 of chub and skimmers from Steve Norman with 13-14-8 of bream and Paul Worrall with 7-2-0 of skimmers.
Top in the Piper AC match on the beech pool at Burton Mere Fishery was Tony Johnson with 16-11-0 of carp, ahead of Phil White's 16-10-0 of carp and Mike White's 11-11-0 of carp and barbel.
Ellesmere Port anglers were up front in the Iceland Foods AC match at Mouldsworh lake. Jason Neil won with 14-2-0, including a 12lbs mirror carp and John Bristow was runner-up with 10-12-0 of small fish. Dave Roxburgh took 6-4-0 of tench.
FISHERIES NEWS Meadow: Peter Finnerty, of Ellesmere Port, coaxed a 6-1-0 rainbow to a red wolf. Burton Mere: Phil Smith, of Bebington, lured a 42lbs catfish to luncheon meat; Michael Fennell, of Blacon, tempted catfish of 27lbs and 22lbs and a 13-8-0 mirror carp to luncheon meat; Shaun Wren, of Bebington, tempted common carp of 17-8-0 and 16-4-0 to a black squid boilie and his brother Wesley fished an Iceland red boilie to take a 12lbs mirror carp.
Harthill: Tony Kepper, of Malpas, fished a carp pellet to take five carp up to a 12lbs mirror; Paul Newton, of Ellesmere Port, netted six carp between 4lbs and 8-8-0 to luncheon meat; and John Green, of Chester, coaxed four carp up to 9-8-0 and a brace of tench up to 3-8-0.
Grove: John Rowlands, of Ellesmere Port, lifted 27 carp, his best a 15-8-0 mirror, all to a halibut carp pellet.
Lloyds Meadow: Mike Parsonage, of Upton, netted 91 carp up to 8-8-0 for a total of 155lbs, using sweetcorn or pellet. Gweryd: Chester's Mike Redding bagged seven carp up to 9lbs and 11 carp up to a 20lb common in two sessions, using poppedup boilie. Paul Molyneux, of Chester, landed 24 carp between 8lbs and 18lbs to an activate boilie and Mark Bennett, of Wirral, found four ghost carp up to 8lbs and an 18-2-0 mirror carp to solar bait. Dearnford Hall: Alan Mills, of Chester, landed the top fish of the week, a 13-11-0 rainbow to an elkcane cadis, and Neil Chaucer of Ellesmere Port lured a 7-3-0
