FISHING: DESPITE last Sunday's choppy conditions, the Phoenix SAC match went ahead, fishing out of Amlych on Anglesey with Roy Smith skipper.
Winner of the day was Jimmy Middleton who fished with mackeral to take a 14-5-0 skate. Runner-up was John Sherlock with an 8-8-0 pollock taken to a red gill and Gary Davies having a 6-0-0 pollock.
Ellesmere Port were victorious in Sunday's Manley AC match on Manley Springs fishery.
Taking carp, tench and bream gave Mark Davies a winning 22-1-0, easily beating Billy Bristow with the same to weigh in 15-4-0, putting Steve Roxburgh third with 11-8-0 of carp.
Ellesmere Port's Mark Greasley was the top team weigher in last week's North West Police finals match on the Copthorne fishery at Garstang.
Greasley, a member of the Cheshire team, finished fifth on the day with a catch of carp to weigh 17-12-0. Back-up came from Ellesmere Port's Alan Roberts with 14-3-0 of carp.
The day went the way of Dougie Walsh in last Saturday's Rivacre AC match on the long island pool at the Hampton Springs fishery. His catch of carp weighing 34-8-0 proved better than Billy Gore with a tench and carp mix for 31-12-0, ahead of Ian Lloyd having similar for 22-12-0.
A 6-8-0 common carp helped Danny Boothroyd to victory in the Wednesday night match of the Lobol AC fished on their priory pool. Adding bits brought his weight up to 9-8-0 to beat Steve Dean with a mixed 6-13-0, ahead of Sid Robinson with the same to weigh 5-14-0.
Alex Lowe was top in the junior match at the same venue last Saturday. A 2-0-0 of crucians and perch gave him a top 6-4-0 to beat Cameron Manning with a mixed bag for 4-3-0, leading Alex Cooke on 3-5-0 and Kieron Manning with 3-2-0.
On Sunday, the club again fished a match on the Lingmere fishery. Taking small carp and tench, Kevin Cooke put 23-0-0 on to the scales to lead Maurice Malley with carp weighing 22-0-0, beating Sid Robinson having carp weighing 21-0-0.
Paul Rose was up front in last Sunday's Willaston AC open match fished on the Golden Nook length of the Shropshire Union canal at Waverton.
His catch of bream taken to caster reached 6-7-8, beating Chris Morris with the same to weigh 6-1-8 and Eddy Simms, third with bits for 4-5-4.
