HOME sailor Bill Webber won the Comet Open staged by Winsford Flash Sailing Club on Saturday.

He beat off 15 other boats from as far away as Peterborough. The committee boat was used for the start and finish of all races to allow for more adventurous racing, and it suited Webber.

He won the first two races and then dug in at the front with a third and second to take the first prize comfortably.

Ian Coppenhall, from Peterborough, was runner-up and Winsford's Paul Plested third. Clubmates Jonathan Latham and Steven Bellamy were sixth and seventh respectively. Brian Herring and David Harrison were ninth and 10th.
