DEESIDE Ramblers retained their 100% record in the Northern Premier Division by ruining Preston’s.
Both sides had maximum points going into the game but Deeside were dominant on the day, winning 5-1.
Russell Hornby set the pattern of play and was rewarded by scoring two goals, one of which he executed in the last minute of the game from an overtime penalty corner.
The hosts’ other key player, defender Geoff Price, was not so fortunate.
As he saved a shot on goal he managed to break two fingers, which required hospital treatment.
Ben Lamont scored a goal while Ali Ghanzafar sent the ball screaming into the roof of the net. Ibrar Latif scored the other goal.
Only Deeside and Bowdon now have unblemished records in the league, with the Ramblers top on goal difference.
Deeside 2nds were powerless to stop Brooklands on their travels, losing 7-1.
The only contribution of note from Deeside was Jack Hardman’s ferocious drive that earned their token goal.
Deeside 3rds saw off the students of Lancaster University 5-0.
The result leaves the 3rds comfortably in second place in North West League Division Four, just one point adrift of Lytham St Anne’s.
Deeside 7ths held South Cheshire to a 2-2 draw away from home.
Captain David Pinnington took just nine players to Congleton and came back with a point.
In the second half Malcolm Hill took two chances to restore parity after Deeside fell 2-0 behind. And the visitors nearly snatched a victory at the end as a shot landed plum on the line adjacent to the post – but failed to roll across it.
