WHILE most people are looking forward to a restful Christmas and New Year, Weaverham sailor Rob Partridge is in the middle of a hectic schedule.
Partridge, a 17-year-old Sir John Deane's College A-level student, is to defend the World Youth 29ers title with new partner James Ellis.
The two RYA elite squadmen, only recently paired, are training hard for the championships in Argentina.
Ellis is Plymouth-based and most of the practice is on the south coast, which means a huge commitment for Partridge if he is to hang on to his world title.
He won the same event in August with previous helm Dylan Fletcher and they were also second overall, being beaten only by an Olympic crew.
Before dashing off to a national squad training at Wey-mouth, he said: 'Our boat is on its way to Argentina right now, but we have still got training every weekend. I've got an exam just before I go so it is a crowded timetable.
'James and I have worked hard to get used to each other and it is all coming together now. I fancy our chances.'
Partridge has been pencilled in for the London Olympics and is searching for sponsorship. Anyone wishing to help can contact him or his parents, Graham and Helen, on 01606 855083.
