AMY Wright, Amelia Connor and Aiofe Haymer conjured up some gold-medal magic at the regional final of the Norwich Union National Sportshall Athletics League.

They was among six Halton and Frodsham Harriers representing the county in the North West finals at Robin Park Arena in Wigan.

Amy's efforts helped Cheshire's U13s girls reach the national final as regional champions.

She won bronze for her speed-bounce score of 79 and was part of the victorious obstacle-relay quartet.

The county's two other age group squads narrowly failed to qualify for Birmingham's National Indoor Arena on Sunday, April 22, after finishing second overall.

But Aiofe, won speed-bounce gold for the U15 girls, with her fine total of 84, while also picking up points in the four-lap race (eighth, 51.2 secs) and standing long jump (seventh, 2.12m).

Amelia won the vertical jump with 56cm, was the two-lap runner-up and earned a bronze medal in the all-rounder competition while finishing seventh in the speed bounce with 72.

Reserve Nicole Bell had a best non-scoring leap of 2m in the standing long jump.

Liam Renton competed for Cheshire's U13 boys at Wigan having the previous day been the county's second counter and 66th overall in the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships in Nottingham.

Despite still suffering the effects, he scored points with sixth place in the six-lap race (1:28.3) and seventh for the shot putt (5,18m).

Ashley Pye finished fourth in the speed bounce with 71 and fifth in the two lap (24.7).
