SWIMMING: OVERALL champions Woodlands retained their title at the Ellesmere Port & Neston Swimming Gala at the EPIC on Monday.

Woodlands, who also went on to become the town's first Wirral Champions last year, will return to the Europa, Birkenhead, next month to defend their peninsula crown in the A finals while runners-up Whitby Heath will contest the B finals.

A total of 38 points, 28 from the boys who were section winners and 10 from the girls who were fourth, gave Woodlands their crown.

Whitby Heath's 24 points puts them second overall, followed by Meadow (23), St Mary of the Angels (21), Neston (20) and Bishop Wilson (18).

Neston were girls' winners with 19 points, followed by Whitby Heath (18), Parkgate (13), Woodlands (10), St Mary of the Angels (8) and Childer Thornton (7).

Meadow were boys' runners-up on 19 points followed by Bishop Wilson (15), St Mary of the Angels (13), Whitby Heath (6), Christ Church (5) and Our Lady's (5).

More than 20 schools from throughout the borough participated and the number of children taking part exceeded 200 with the mayor and mayoress in attendance to present the medals.

Individual results for finals as follows - Girls' 4x33.3m Freestyle Relay (Top Three): 1 Neston, 2 Whitby Heath, 3 Woodlands.

Boys' 4x33.3m Freestyle Relay: 1 Woodlands, 2 Meadow, 3 St Mary of the Angels.

Girls' 33.3m Backstroke: 1 Sarah Eagle-sham (Neston), 2 Hannah Mather-Coe (Childer Thornton), 3 Amber Fitch (St Mary of the Angels).

Boys' 33.3m Backstroke: 1 Sean Farrington (Woodlands), 2 Jordan Blaylock (Meadow), 3 Jake Booth (Bishop Wilson).

Girls' 33.3m Breaststroke: 1 Ellie Rickett (Sutton Green), 2 Helen Salisbury (Little Sutton), 3 Charlotte Lee (Meadow).

Boys' 33.3m Breaststroke: 1 Phillip Cal-land (Whitby Heath), 2 Tristan Skelley (Bishop Wilson), 3 Chris Goodwin (Woodlands).

Girls' 33.3m Freestyle: 1 Kelly Rochell (Mansfield), 2 Lauren Silcock (Whitby Heath), 3 Abigail Lloyd (Parkgate).

Boys' 33.3m Freestyle: 1 Ryan Coyne (Woodlands), 2 Gavin Barnett (Christ Church), 3 John Gould (St Saviour's).
