MOTORSPORT: TEAM Founds finished a disappointing 15th at Brands Hatch in the latest round of the Superside Sidecar World Championship, with their only consolation coming from the bike overcoming its previous technical difficulties.
Chris and Pete managed to bag 11th place on the grid and were pleased with the prospect of starting from the sixth row. But by race time, chief mechanic Colin Peters had advised the team to use the wet tyres with rain covering the Kent circuit.
As the lights changed, the boys made a good start off the line, with the idea not to spin the rear tyre and loose traction. Unfortunately, Chris was too cautious in the first couple of corners and dropped back through the field. Part of this was attributed to the new back tyre, which hadn't been properly bedded in and provided no grip until mid-race.
Chris also made the fatal mistake of wiping his visor with his gloves, which inevitably put a film of grease across the visor and made things even worse.
After finally starting to push the bike mid-race, Team Founds eventually managed to get into a points-scoring position but finished a disappointing 15th.
Chris said: 'A point is better than nothing at this stage of the season and we're now looking forward to the next round at Assen in the Netherlands. We will definitely be looking for a strong top-ten finish in Holland. After qualifying ninth there last year and finishing 11th, this should be a strong possibility.'
