AN ill-tempered match between Vauxhall Motors Reserves and league leaders Runcorn Town was one of just two games to survive the weather in the West Cheshire League’s top flight.

The Division One clash saw Motors beaten 6-0 at the Motassist Arena with the referee forced to get involved a number of times.

Four goals from Jason Tarney and one apiece from Simon Barton and Mark Toohey extended Runcorn’s lead at the top as almost all the other games in the league on Saturday were postponed due to frozen pitches.

In the Ellesmere Port Sunday League, the entire Premier Division programme was postponed but in Division One three games survived.

Old Wirral Hundred easily beat Sir Robert, winning 4-1. A double from Laurence Bendle and goals from Jamie Shuttleworth and Ryan Melville ensured Leigh Hearn’s strike for Sir Robert counted for nothing.

Cat travelled to Rivacre and returned 4-1 winners. Tim Spence struck for the hosts but Jake Lloyd (2), Jordan Eccleston and Rob Stockton found the net for Cat.

SCFC 94, meanwhile, inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Travellers Rest thanks to goals from Wayne Manning (2) and Keith Robinson.
