CASTROL Social suffered cup final heartache on Friday.

The Oilmen went down 1-0 to West Kirby in the Cheshire Amateur Cup final at Rivacre Park, Paul Casey scoring the decisive goal.

In the West Cheshire League, Ellesmere Port’s fight for survival was strengthened on Saturday after a vital victory at Marine Reserves.

A Mark Baldwin strike was supplemented by an own goal to complete the 2-1 victory that leaves Port joint fourth-from-bottom in Division One.

The vital win keeps the Port four points ahead of relegation-threatened Vauxhall Motors Reserves who also boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 win at home to Upton AA.

Goals from Michael Withers and Mark Head were enough for the Rivacre Park boys.

Seventh-placed Willaston enjoyed their Saturday in the sun with a 5-1 romp over visitors Newton.

Goals from Jimmy Hilditch (2), Domonic Holden (2) and Dave Forbes completed the scoresheet.

In Division Two, struggling Grange Athletic had Tom Craig to thank for his hat-trick as the second-from-bottom outfit cruised to a 4-1 win over mid-table Mallaby. Shaun Weaver added the other Grange goal.

In Division Three, Capenhurst Villa Reserves’ were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation rivals Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves. Capenhurst had Matty Lancaster on target but an own goal put paid to their hopes.
