CHESHIRE Amateur Cup finalists Castrol Social continued to battle to escape the West Cheshire League Division One relegation dogfight with a 2-1 win over Vauxhall Motors Reserves.
The Oilmen won the Motown Derby through goals from Jason Renshaw and Jordan Brierley, leaving the Motormen to take small consolation from an Allan Collins strike.
Last week Castrol also booked their place in the final of the Amateur Cup, defeating Newton 2-1, with two goals from Mark Ryan cancelling out Steve Jones’s effort for the visitors.
The Division One clash between Ellesmere Port and Christleton was postponed.
In Division Two Grange Athletic had a fruitful trip to Pensby in Wirral.
They brought home maximum points after winning 2-1 with goals from Iain Armstrong and Shaun Weaver. Owen Davies replied for the Wirralians.
Capenhurst Villa were no pushovers at Heswall Reserves, but they didn’t have the fortitude to deny their hosts three points as Heswall triumphed 2-1.
Ryan Nicoll struck for Villa but a brace from David Swain was enought to tip the balance.
Ellesmere Port Reserves also suffered defeat as they made the trip to face Mersey Royal in Division Three.
Port also fell 2-1, with Paul Platt and Matty Jones scoring Royal’s goals, Mike Jones responding for visiting Port.
Capenhurst Villa Reserves match at home to Runcorn Town Reserves was postponed.
On Saturday Division One sees Castrol Social attempt to climb further out of trouble with a home game against mid-table Maghull.
Ellesmere Port travel to Halton while Vauxhall Motors Reserves face Blacon YC, who seem to be becoming the league’s bottom club by tradition.
In Division Two Grange Athletic travel to Bebington Athletic while Capenhurst Villa host New Brighton.
Division Three pits Ellesmere Port Reserves against Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves and Manor Athletic host Capenhurst Villa Reserves.
