A NEW European kickboxing champion from Widnes wants to take on the world.
Ditton's 24-year-old cruiserweight Mark Turner, already British champion, became king of the continent by stopping holder Jon Green in front of an 800 hometown crowd at Kingsway Leisure Centre.
Turner won the golden belt with a second-round defeat of his opponent from Barnsley's Dragonfoot Gym in a full-contact scheduled seven-rounder at 85kg.
The bout was on the multi-style show Annihilation, which also included contests in kickboxing, Thai boxing, mixed martial arts and boxing.
Turner has been kickboxing since his youth and trains with Gary Giam at The Martial Arts Studio at Ditton Community Centre.
Sharon Giam from TMAS said: 'Mark holds the area title, English title, British title and now the European title.
'The next one is the world title - although he will probably have to defend his European belt a few times before he can go in for that.'
