Winnington Park Ladies 9 Acton Ladies 1
WINNINGTON moved nearer to a thrilling climax to the Cheshire League season.
They enjoyed a derby romp courtesy of a hat-trick from leading scorer Karen Thwaites, Rosie Field (2), a brace from skipper Eileen Miller - scored before she left the pitch with two black eyes after being struck by the ball - a neat flick from a penalty-corner by Julie Dunn and another from Leona Trimble.
Half-time score was 5-0.
Park are one point behind leaders Macclesfield who come to Sir John Deane's in the closing game on Saturday week.
It should be the title decider assuming Park win at Brooklands at the weekend. And it is Brooklands who provide the opposition in the Cheshire Plate final, on March 20, at a venue to be arranged.
Knutsford 1 Winnington Park 2: Park's good sequence of results continued and their derby performance contained some excellent examples of play and at times they shone in what was otherwise a scrappy affair.
David Hunt opened the scoring for Park with a goal scored from a very tight angle.
However, Knutsford then decided that they could also do that sort of thing and equalised within a minute.
Their goal was a flick from a penalty-corner that fizzed into the top right of the goal. Knutsford were then unlucky not to go 2-1 up as what appeared to be a good goal was disallowed and their misfortune continued with a player being sinbinned.
Park, on the other hand, remained disciplined and a pass from Mark Leigh found Danny Moores at the back post where he effortlessly deflected the ball home. The rest of the game became a clumsy attritional affair but, with the spirit shown by captain Adam Kueres, Park finished as victors.
