ENGLAND cricketers from the past 30 years will head to the Wirral later this month to help to raise thousands of pounds for a cancer charity.

The Old England team, captained by fast bowling legend John Lever, will take part in a special fundraising day at Neston Cricket Club in Parkgate on Thursday, July 26.

The players will play in a match against a Neston Select XI as well as answering questions at a business lunch in the club’s Cranston Suite. Proceeds from the day will go towards the vital work of North West Cancer Research Fund.

The event has three sponsors – Chester-based telecoms and IT company Pescado, North West accountants DSG and Ellesmere Port-based construction data company Barbour ABI.

Lever will be joined in the Old England side by players including fellow fast bowlers Paul Jarvis, Richard Ellison and Neal Radford, as well as big-hitting batsman Wayne Larkins.

Neston CC’s Bob Cooke, who is organising the day, said: “This will be the fourth visit by Old England to Neston and we are once again delighted to be supporting such a wonderful cause as North West Cancer Research Fund.

Old England team manager Jim Parks, himself a former England wicket-keeper, said: “All the players love coming to Neston for this wonderful fixture which raises so much money for cancer research.”
