FISHING: LOBOL Angling Club member Peter Cooke netted the top honours in last Sunday's Hampton Springs Fishery open match. Drawn on rock pool, Peter took a catch of carp up to the 5-0-0 mark to reach an impressive 50-12-0.
The previous day Livacre's Billy Gore took second in their open match with carp to weigh 23-0-0. In third place was Rod N Reels' Lenny Bolton with 21-0-0 of carp.
Local anglers again made the grade in the week's open matches on the Lingmere Fishery.
Top in the Thursday match was Alan Dewhurst having a mixed 31-4-0 ahead of Dave Randles Senior with similar for 18-8-0 and his son Dave Junior having 16-2-0.
Chris Smith won their Saturday match with a carp based 24-10-0 having the edge over Dave Randles Senior on 18-8-0 and John Armour with 14-8-0.
Two Ellesmere Port members of the Chester Tackle Locker team were the top weighers in last Sunday's Crewe and District Winter League match on the Shrop-shire Union, at Aston.
Phil Weaver was top with 1-12-0 of roach supported by Mike Beaumont with 1-2-0 of roach which helped the team to a third place finish on the day having moved to a mid league position overall.
Two members of the Fish-erman's Cove team were alongside the leaders in last Saturday's Tarvin Sands AC open match fished on the new pools at their own fishery.
The winner was Rick Keeley taking roach and skim-mers for a top 7-0-0, followed in third place by Keith Williamson with 3-8-0 of the same.
Both of the Willaston teams struggled in the Leeds and Liverpool canal at Maghull in last Sunday's Liverpool Jack Purchase Winter League match.
Willaston Red fared best, led by Jamie Hughes, winner of his section with 1-14-10 of bream and perch.
Supporting were Phil Cross with 1-3-10 of very small roach and Peter Cooke having 8-14 of perch. Willaston Blacks efforts came from Tony Churchill, second in his section with just 6-1 of perch, and Keith Wilson with 6-0 of perch. Both teams finished midway on Tuesday while overall Willaston Red have slipped to seventh and Willaston Black lie 12th overall.
