ATHLETICS: ANDREW Clague of West Cheshire AC bagged ninth place (36:24) to become the first runner from the host club home in the Guilden Sutton Six 10k Road Race on Sunday.
The event was won by City of Stoke AC's Mike Proudlove (31:26) while other WCAC representatives were Stephen Williams, 64th in 43:04, Richard Batterham, 105th in 45:47 - just one place behind his daughter Claire with the same time - Geoff Harvey, 149th place in 48:48, and Frances Mudway, 168th in 51:09.
Mike Lamb and Mary Radford represented WCAC in Saturday's North Wales Cross-Country League first-round match held at Bangor.
Mary finished 60th in the ladies race and Mike finished 120th in the men's event.
The second round of the North Wales Cross-Country League will be held at Colwyn Bay on Saturday, October 9, (2.10pm).
Graham Earlam was WCAC's first finisher in the Multi-Terrain League Race staged at Eastham Ferry Country Park, securing 12th place ahead of Gary Withers, who finished 14th.
Clive Donovan negotiated the off-road course to finish 35th, ahead of Brian Hastings in 51st position, Chris Rhodes (67th), Dave Hough (69th), Tony Kennedy (84th), Brian Beattie (90th), Mark Povey (99th), Geoff Harvey (104th), and Tony Thackeray (105th), with Alison Talbot finishing 21st in the ladies race. Fixtures this weekend include the first round of the North Staffs Cross-Country League at Parkhall Country Park, Stoke-on-Trent, on Saturday.
The first race is the U11 girls event at 1pm, followed by 1.15pm, U11 boys/U13 girls; 1.30pm, U13 boys/U15 girls; 1.45pm, U15 boys/U17 ladies; 2pm, U17 youths, junior, senior and veteran ladies; and 2.35pm, junior, senior and veteran men.
Sunday will see the Cheshire Corporate Cup set off from Chester Racecourse, while the Pirelli Five Miles Road Race will be held at Wrexham and the Flintshire 10k Road Race sets off from Mold at noon, also on Sunday.
Other fixtures on Sunday include the Sandstone Trail Races from Duckington, and the Macclesfield Half Marathon which incorporates the Cheshire Half Marathon Championship.
WCAC are organising a family quiz night at Little Stanney Village Hall, on Friday, October 8 (7.30pm).
