KARTING: BROTHERS Alexander and Nicholas O'Sullivan enjoyed a double celebration last Sunday when they secured podium finishes in the first round of the 2005 Manchester & Buxton Kart Club Championship at Glan Y Gors Parc, near Corwen.
Nine-year-old Abbey Gate Junior School pupil Nicholas scored a remarkable second place overall in the Cadet race, in only his second competitive outing.
As a novice driver he had to start from the back row of the grid but made a superb start and raced through to second place in increasingly heavy rain. Alexander, who goes to Calday Grange
Grammar School, Wirral, was racing in the Minimax class and won all three heats, starting the final from pole position.
He fully expected to win the 14-lap final but opted for intermediate tyres and was passed by British Super One driver Ryan Singleton as weather conditions worsened towards the end of the race.
